youssef said i shld be more detailed in my blog posts. i said i'll be more detailed with things he's involved in he went 'no no no' but included a :D at the end so im gonna assume it really means 'yes yes yes! :D' hahahahhaa eh but i have nothing much to blog about now except.... the way jac sleeps last night she told me she yelled out loud and kicked and all that (all of which i heard) because she was sick of being stuck in the same dream (im assuming same scene in the same dream) so in her frustration she yelled and kicked and hit the bed. all that while she's 'sleeping'. i don't know how that's possible although i do get those sometimes the stuck-in-the-same-place, dream-not-moving-forward situations so i just stand around in my dreamland... doing nothing.. looking around.... on the verge of waking up, but refusing to because i don't want to leave the dream. it is silly speaking of dreams i dreamt i was playing bass last night! ... technically it wasnt a bass. and i didnt play much. it was a classical guitar and i was just playing a few riffs. hahhahaha we were at something like a guitar shop. and i saw this cool black bass. what was it called.......... i forgot. mightve been called Ryu. or dragon? :S i was itching to try it out! but didnt. damn! i wish i did! at least in my dreams, let me play! HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHA it was black. glossy. looks a lot like my ibanez back home but with a different body shape! not the standard guitar shape! heheheehehehehehehehehehehe my fingers must be getting SO rusty from lack of practice! i can only imagine! it's quite worrisome! :S * hmm today should be the day i return home haha TOP OF PAGE

15.11.08 Day 9 Picton Left wellington for picton via ferry. choppy waters again. felt a little sick. urgh. 3 hour ride across the cook strait. very slow. very windy. took some photos but look i probably look like i was in agony. hair whipping around my face. ouch. picton is a small, quiet town full of europeans. especially germans. nothing much happened cuz by the time we checked in it was around 5pm. had dinner at Le Cafe. food was yummy (i had home made pasta) but there was only a few pieces and it cost $20. hahahahaha tmr we go trekking. 16.11.08 this was breakfast. finished in a hurry. i almost died. salmon & scrambled eggs & bagel. jackie orded some bacon thing with fried bananas. it's quite cool. 930am boat to somewhere. HAAHAHAHAHAHA got to see some dusky dolphins! don't have photos of them cuz they are so shy :/ had dinner at Slip Inn. i like the food there. we had dessert first cuz we were still quite full from lunch. chocolate mousse cake. only $7.50. very worth it. pizza. mega meat pizza. yum! thin crust. crispy. !! and so ends our stay in Picton. 17.11.08 it's just a bus ride la. but we passed by all sorts of cool landscapes and features and stuff. heehee the bus arrived at 730am? it was a rainy morning. so i fell asleep on the bus as usual. woke up at 830 and saw this. rainbow! rainbow rainbow rainbow~ the good thing about this place is there are no HDB or tall buildings to block the view. :D and then there was the greyish blue sea, shimmery in the sun. overcast sky. there was the usual floating seaweed everywhere. loads of blobs of fat on the rocks called seals. think i spotted 2 or 3 dolphins but i can't be sure cuz they slipped under the waves so quickly. the road we took was parallel to the coast, so it was an hour of me straining to see dolphins. after the sea were the mountains. the snow capped mountains. nothing more to say. there were a few deer farms in the area? so NZ isnt just cows and sheep! and then we stopped at kaikoura for a half hour break. im eating a pizza. and busy stuffing my pockets with pebbles. hehe
the cool thing about this place is Labels: New Zealand TOP OF PAGE

Last night the 7 of us had our last dinner together. eh... last dinner for this year bah. (cuz everyone's leaving for home or graduating and stuff) cooked chicken rice. but with nasilemak rice and only some chicken 'chicken' rice. youssef cooked his special omelette thing with olives and was it beef? it was good! so bloated! and then we gave youssef the scroll jac made. with all our pictures and little messages for him and we held our own little graduation for him. even gave him a pebble with the word 'balls.' on it! wrote it myself! bittersweet moment, eh? i saw youssef dancing the mario/choo choo train dance! sometime that night i think, youssef ate a fly. yum! * zen and ael left for malaysia today. jenny left on another short backpacking to...somewhere down south la. not sure where. suddenly the house is very quiet and empty only jac, jonas and me left. youssef lives a few houses away but he pops by. to think at one point in time, there was zen, ael, jonas, jac, jenny, fendi and me under one roof. hahahahahaha and with everyone's belongings, the place was buried in boxes and stuff. oh i got to drive today. he he he he he he he he he he he he he he just around the carpark la. hehehehehehehehehehe TOP OF PAGE

14.11.08 Day 8 Wellington It was cold. it was 730am. Jac and I saw hiro and youssef off at the bus stop. they had to leave early cuz hiro's flying to japan on monday and he's gotta pack. and stuff. and hiro's got some stuff. he's got a 21inch TV or something, 8 baseball caps, 2 baseball bats? among others :S pity la. they only stayed one day (or rather, one night) and it was hiro's first time in wellington too. then jac and i got some pies. run by some asians. eh.. not chinese. maybe thai. or vietnamese. or somewhere there. i cant tell the difference. she was pretty curt. tsk tsk. not friendly at all. after we bought our pies an angmoh woman came in. the asian's attitude changed immediately. put on a smile and greeted the new customer. wth?! and then Zen and Ael woke up and we went to Fidel's for breakfast. yumyum. pancakes with banana and bacon. hahahahahahahaha after breakfast we shopped on cuba street and the surrounding area la. all shopping only. Cuba street has many shops selling street clothes. punk clothes. stuff like that. not cheap. pffffft. i bought 2 pairs of earrings. one was an upside-down cross. and then i lost one of the crosses. THE HELL!!!!! GRRRRRR!! so shop shop shop. walk walk walk. got a few bargains! yay! hahahaa got tired. went back to NOMADs, rested, and it was time for dinner. YAY! TWO SOULS. that was the restaurant. slightly pricey. very slightly only la. ordered lamb shank. came with mashed 'taters. delicious. really. the lamb was tender and tasty and well worth the money. and the mashed potatoes were one of the best i tasted. perhaps i havent had a good life. hahahahahahahahhahaha but it was yummy! also ordered midori melon. $8. shot size. the hell! so when dinner was over we went for a walk to the harbor. another cold cold night. japanese teenagers everywhere. not just japanese la. asian kids everywhere. dancing like they had muscle cramps in their legs. it was an amusin sight? then we saw something HUGE and ORANGE behind the mountains. IT WAS A VOLCANIC ERUPTION! THE END OF THE WORLD! . . . . my foot la. it was just the moon rising. HUGE MOON. i thought perhaps it would explode? or a sea monster would come out of the sea? or maybe there was a slight chance the moon would crash into earth? didn't happen la. so ends another day. BBRRRRRR! my hoodie has shrunk. my graniph hoodie with 2 way zip :( my band Tshirts have shrunk. :( at first i was pretty amused by how i could wear what used to be dirty laundry just 2 hours after stuffing them in the washing machine. but now ahHHHH!!!! 13.11.08 Day 7 Rotorua & Wellington today we leave Rotorua for Wellington. but not before Zen, Ael, Youssef, Hiro and I go for some quad bike action! (Jac and Jen went to visit the mud pools and geysers). Quad Bikes. what can i say? smells like diesel. sounds like a lawnmower. accelerates at the push of a lever. can't brake for shit. sends cow shit flying to the rider behind you. give you bruises on your knee. a LOT of fun. Zen sent fresh coz shit towards me. it splattered on my right calf. yucks. he himself had to dodge shit. hahahhahaa lesson learnt: don't tailgate. so the owner was supposed to take photos of us, but, as Zen put it 'he doesnt have a single photography cell in his body'. ie they were all horrible photos. hahahhahhaaha so after an hour of buzzing around and bruising up my knee, we headed back to town to clean up, lunch, and catch the bus to wellington. an arduous 7hour ride. at wellington we checked in to..NOMADS backpackers. $32 for a 4 room dorm with a bathroom. we had a french? dorm-mate. i cant even remember her name. oops. and then it was straight ti Fidel's for dinner. it's a cafe that this group of people MUST patronise when in Wellington. EVERY DAY. which is fine. they make good breakfast. :D pancakes with banana and bacon! oh. then we went to cue fuel for some pool. a chance to drink! i don't even remember what it was. this trip has made me play pool, and drink alcohol. it is a miracle! an hour later we walked to the harbor. it was drizzling. Zen bought us all MacD sundaes. and we sat/stood there in the cold cold cold rain, eating ice cream. i saw youssef's 'girlfriend'. Labels: New Zealand TOP OF PAGE

im drinking avocado milkshake Ael made :) yum! even tho im in the midst of blogging about my backpacking trip, i shouldnt forget to blog about daily going ons la! i still have 4 backpacking days to cover. and i don't have all the photos yet, so dun feel like updating. hahahahaha if you check my facebook albums u'll see most of them! if anyone is reading my blog about my trip, best start from Day 1. ive labelled those posts with 'New Zealand'. you just gotta click the hyperlink at the bottom of the post to access all blog entries regarding the backpacking trip. :D so now we're back in lincoln. in the 10 days we were gone, summer has come to christchurch. technically it is november and still spring. but now the days are a lot warmer. this change is quite sudden. i thought since we were travelling south it would get colder. but it didnt! :) now that we're done backpacking, we're going around the same places in christchurch. yesterday we went to hornby. i got to eat my first domino's pizza. we bought 4 pizzas for $35. shared among 7 people! hahahaha u cant get pizzas that cheap in singapore. it's impossible. today we went to other malls. riccarton and one further away. generally the malls here have the same shops. the layout is the same. and they sell the same things. hahahahahahaha oh well. what i love is pak n save. because buying food is exciting. hahahahahahaha i also love Bling. it's a shop a lot like Diva in singapore. but they have sale now. 50% off. 70% off. i am buying stuff for under $5. i am super happy! just now we had Japanese food for dinner. Niko Japanese Restaurant. eh.... niko is supposed to be the name of a place in Japan. according to our egyptian, niko means something else in his language. hahahahahaha the owner said he saw us walk pass his shop so so so many times he recognized us! asked me if i was japanese! HAHAHAHAHA that's so funny. yea i suppose this place is so small u just keep seeing the same people. ooh. youssef showed us some photos of modern egypt. im ashamed to admit i don't know anything about modern egypt. i only know ancient egypt. pyramids, scarabs, sand and sun. first photo i saw, there was a bigggggggg river. i went 'Oh my god there is water!' i forgot about the nile. HAHAHAHAHA and there were tall buildings and all that! :O i feel like a dumb blonde! hahahahaha TOP OF PAGE

Wednesday 12.11.08 Day 6 Rotorua We had originally planned to stay 2 days at Tauranga, but the guys were raving about the mountain of activities in Rotorua, so we joined them after 1 day. While Jen, Jac and I were in Tauranga, Hiro, Youssef, Zen and Ael were in Rotorua zooming down the hill in a huge ball. Z - O - R - B! another gay moment for Hiro and Youssef, from the pictures i saw. it was wet. it was tumbling around. it was gayness. as in happiness. hahahhhaha before we arrived, they also tried the big swing thing. uh it's called SWOOP or something. that looked rad. i wanted to try it to. but whatever. So when we joined them in Rotorua, we went White water rafting with the River Rats. There was to be a 7-meter fall (grade 5) and the rest of the river was pretty much grade 3 (ie boring). Jenny didnt join us cuz her parents werent keen on it. We were given wet suits, life vests, boots and a helmet. ah. wet suits. no one looks good in a wet suit. it was a hassle to put on and felt goddamn weird. hahahahaha Hiro was the worst. he wore his wetsuit front to back. it was almost choking him, but he didnt even realise it. hahaha hail our resident blur king! Every time the guide told us to stop paddling, Hiro continued. the guide would yell STOP! STOP! and Hiro would be enthusiastically paddling away. it was so funny! i sat opposite him, at the front of the raft. best view of all his clumsiness. The rapids weren't scary. nothing was scary. the guide let us jump in the water at one point, and everyone dove in. which was OK, except for the fact that WHO WAS GONNA PULL US BACK ON THE RAFT??? hahahaha youssef was the first to be pulled up by the guide. he went on and pulled jackie out. took a look around and saw that everyone had someone helping them, and sat down. then hiro came flying at him. right between the legs. HELLO MAN-LOVE! LOL i suppose Youssef was shocked? he didnt do anything but just sat there staring at the back of Hiro's head. Hiro was there for like 10 seconds!!! Zen was laughing so hard he almost died. the guide was looking at the 2 of them incredulously, and then at Zen, who was practically ROFL (except that there was no space to RO) Me, on the other hand, didnt witness this priceless moment cuz my head was stuck at the front of the raft. THE HELL! im only re-telling the story. well then, what was i doing while all this was going on? backtrack a bit. when we all jumped into the water, i jumped in next to Hiro because i thought it was better to be dragged behind the raft, with the flow of the river. When it was time to get back on, Youssef was first. Zen was second in (Zen was flung in by the guide, cuz he was so light.) He was gonna reach for Hiro. but hiro was all, 'no, teresa first! teresa!' (cuz rapids were coming up and we were running out of time). but by then Jac and Ael were trying to pull me up. so Zen turned back to Hiro. just in time to see Hiro pulled up by the guide. but he 'over-pulled' (as is wont of the guide), and hiro went sailing headfirst towards Youssef. When jac managed to pull me in i fell in on top of lots of legs. the raft went over the rapids, and my helmet got stuck in the corner. so while i was screaming for someone to unstuck me, everyone was laughing at the man-love between youssef and hiro. AND I MISSED ALL OF IT! DAMMIT!!!!! but i can just about imagine it. hahahahhahahahahahahha (later Hiro claims he couldnt do anything to push himself out. yea. sure. Youssef also claimed he had no space to move. HAHAHAHAHAHAH Hiro also said rafting was the most enjoyable of all the things we did, but NOT because of that gay incident.) After rafting we went for the Gondola and Luge and Sky Swing. these are taken on the gondola. way down. everyone is supposed to look sad. this was taken on the way up, after we zigzagged down on the luge. many rabbits live on the slopes of the hill. cute rabbits. cute like out of Snow White's forest cute. i really like this photo. the couple looks so happy. Youssef and Hiro followed by Zen and Ael Sky swing was the highlight of the evening. As usual, hiro was hesitant to get on. He agreed after he saw Ael,Zen and Youssef get on it and not even scream when they came down. Jac and I got Hiro to sit between us. when we were lifted up to the start position it was pretty scary, cuz we were sliding off our seats, held on only by the belt. (essentially the same things as reverse bungee, but modified). i was worried about going down. hahahahaha it was quite scary. I was given the task of pulling the cord that would release us. when the operator waved at me to pull it, i was all 'Hiro, you do it!' but he was scared. 'No no no, you do it!'. hahah so i did. turns out it wasnt scary at all. reverse bungee was way worse cuz it was so fast. Hiro went into a coma immediately when i pulled the cord. hahahahha he has the most amusing face when he squeezes his eyes shut. maybe i will post the video of our swing ^_^ Dinner was at stonegrill. where they serve your steak uncooked, on stone slabs at 400deg C. and you cook the meat yourself. err.... right. we paid $30 to cook our own meal. hahahaha! but it was quite good. yummy. and i get to eat really really really rare steak. just the way i like it. hahahahahhahahah after dinner there wasnt anything to do, so we went to some bar and drank some. i had Jägerbomb. gooooood. i like it. is another one of the drinks that doesnt taste bitter, so i drink like it's water and end up kooky. and after drinking there still wasnt anything to do, so all of us (-jenny, who went back to rest) headed to ASTRAY (this was where ael, zen hiro and youssef were staying.) and took photos. just hanging out la. hahahaha i love this photo. here everyone was supposed to be random. yup. it is very random. i wonder what Zen is trying to do? Tuesday 11.11.08 Day 5 Tauranga Onwards To the bay of Plenty! We checked into harbourside backpackers. a cosy clean place. very friendly owner, Sarah, who used to be a backpacker herself. this town is another small town, but more lively than coromandel. even better than lincoln. more bars and restuarants and cafes. even a $2 shop. in NZ, u see japanese restaurants everywhere. really everywhere. also a lot of korean and thai eateries. the japanese ones are not bad. the thai food i had here in christchurch (the one near the casino) is pretty good as well. speaking of restaurants, i highly recommend the mexican cafe that down the road from the Bus Exchange in Christchurch. really good. the Zombie i had was good to. a little strong. eh... i was dizzy before i realised it. ah i digressed. after lunch we headed to mount maunganui. it's only a few hundred meters tall. Mount M is the thing in the background. obviously. lower half of Mount M is covered in sheep poo and bleating lambs and sheep and stuff. whatever la. it was pretty steep? we took the road. the shortest. because we had a tight schedule. 3/4 of the way up we came to the end of the road, and just one narrow footpath that went straight up was left. you know that kind of path thats carved right into the side of the hill. probably one foot wide. stray 5cm from it and say hello to the most efficient way down. it was unnerving. first timer la. i have never climbed so close to the edge before? i was on my hands most of the time. hahahahahhaha it was tiring! but it all paid off in the end. we reached the summit with time to spare! took the 'stairs' down. almost slipped. loose rocks and such. straight to the beach. (Bay of Plenty) it was plenty beautiful. won't believe the seashells they have on the beach. uncountable. pretty large too. took off my shoes and socks and stood near the waves. wasnt expecting sudden swells that washed up and yea, made me look like i peed my pants. caught the 6pm bus back to town. grabbed a bite from burgerking (finished my burger in 5minutes!) and was at the backpacker's reception just in time to meet Grant, our guide for night-time kayaking where we could see Glow Worms! GLOW WORM GLOW WORM GLOW WORMS! then we headed to the bank (of the lake la, not the money bank) and unloaded the kayaks. put on the skirt and life vest We got grounded twice. hahaahaha but that was because the lake was almost overflowing. it had breached its banks. this lake was actually part of a hydroelectric plant or something, and they have let a lot of water in. so what used to be grass was now underwater. and we got stuck there. and when we got grounded Grant had to come pull us free. hahahaha he said he was gonna get pneumonia from splashing around in the cold lake. HAHAHA unfortunately i don't have any photos of glow worms. it was close to the full moon that night. it was bright as day. almost. the sky was partly cloudy, we could still see venus and the moon was rarely obscured. we paddled a little deeper in to this little cove of sorts. tall trees on both sides. it was just like being in a fairytale. it was the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. the silhouette of the trees, black against the navy night sky. and the bluish glow of the worms on the trees, looking like christmas lights. pretty bright and big. not tiny little specks of light. sprinkled on our left and right, like stars on a clear night sky. and when i looked up i could catch the moon peeking from behind the tops of the trees. and there was the cold night air. still and peaceful, but punctuated by moreporks (its an owl that doesnt go hoot hoot!) and quacks (from ducks duh) and the occassional cry of a peacock from the farm nearby. after that we let the current drift us back to where we started. chit chat along the way. listening to the noisy fowl. rustling. squawking. the lake was so still we could see the reflections of the moon and stars on the water. nightfall is always very cold. my hands were numb as they were the only things not covered. but it was all worth it. i'd say this is definitely one of the things people must experience before they die. it really is the most beautiful sight. sweet. Monday 10.11.08 Day 4 Coromandel Town, Whitianga today we leave coromandel and head to whitianga, if thats how it's spelled. hmmm maybe it wasnt that late la. maybe onnly 1am or so. these people sleep funny. after a few dizzying bus rides we reached the sea kayaking place. we were kayakin to cathedral cove! our guide was this surfer dude called Ross? he probably said 'sweet' or 'sweet as' 200 times throughout the duration of the trip. it was a somewhat cloudy day. a few swells. slightly choppy sea. a brief set of instructions and we jumped in. the first wave hit me square in the face. such an enthusiastic greeting from the sea. a few of us have tried kayaking before. but not in the sea. not with waves. i think for hiro it was his first time in a kayak. he paddled as if sharks were after him. his paddle merely grazed the top of the waves. HAHAHHAHHAHAHA most of the work was done by the guide, with whom hiro was paired up with. the rest of us laughed our heads off. nonetheless those 2 were still the fastest of the lot. i guess experience counts for a lot more. so the coast was just sandy beaches, eroding cliffs (ash and pumice from past volcanic eruptions). the wind and waves had carved unique features into the cliff faces. when we reached cathedral cove Ross made coffee and hot chocolate for us. and while he was busy with that we explored the beach a little. they are being gay. and we came across this little 'waterfall'. Hiro pretended to be a buddhist monk meditating under the falls. RIGHT. all the guys pretended to do that. the water was cold, mind you. hahahahah crazy people. Hiro struck a very cutesy japanese schoolgirl pose. it was the first time we saw such an expression. we were floored. hahahaahhaahahha he insisted making that face was painful. literally. RIGHTTTTT im sure it is. Soon it was time to leave. paddled back to the beach we started from. drenched and cold and sandy. no one brought a change of clothes, so we sat in the van like wet chickens all the way back to the pier. crossed the river and checked into the Cat's Pyjamas - another backpacker's place. For dinner we went to Dino's. i had Fettucine with chicken and mushroom in some kinda creamy sauce. it was delicious. tonight might be the last time all 7 of us have dinner together. tomorrow jen, jac and i head to Tauranga while the rest go to Rotorua. Sunday 9.11.08 Day 3 Auckland Harbor, Coromandel Town I saw a brilliant dark turquoise sea. I saw volcanic islands with smooth, green, grassy slopes. Nothing else about the ride, because i fell asleep. we don't have pictures of hiro cuz he was sleeping most of the time too. hahah Coromandel town is a small town, like Lincoln town. a peaceful place. has the kind of feeling you can only get from a small town. away from crowds and vehicles and tall buildings. away from noise and clutter and chaos. VERY windy. almost blew our food away. After lunch we took photos at the skate ramp just adjacent to the bench. these photos where all of us are in it were only possible because i ran up and down the ramp to set the camera and timer, then ran back to join the group for the picture. hahah wa. had to tweak the contrast levels. too bright. Hiro wears flipflops. flipflops and smooth ramp = not cool. he was edging backwards on the ramp (getting steeper) and he slipped. but he scrambled back on his feet so quickly and said 'you didnt see that!' HAHAHA ACT COOL LA! Hiro is so clumsy it is comical. Next we walked to the beach. quite a ways down the road. here the roads are paved with stone. the beaches are full of shells. Hiro found a dead jellyfish, which we tortured, buried, exhumed and tossed back into the sea. HAHHAHAHA i was poking the jellyfish. they were just standing around saying how cruel i was. Headed back to town. bought alcohol. a lot of alcohol. baileys, jack daniels, pina colada, midori, irish coffee, tequila+lime shots. too many. everyone of us left the shop with alcohol in hand. everyone except youssef. he doesnt drink alcohol for obvious reasons. first was baileys with milk, then the tequila shot, then irish coffee, then midori, then pina colada. was tipsy in no time. hahahahah. everything was funny. i remember saying ael looked like a Kiwi fruit. HAHAHAHA they looked at me like i was crazy. it was fun. if only i could remember more of it... Labels: New Zealand |
